Co-Create with Teer & Co

When a project calls for a bespoke piece of handcrafted furniture, textiles or art, we understand that the trade (interior designers, architects, property developers, etc) and private clients will generally look forward to working with a maker to realise their vision. But when you’re juggling several client projects at a time, or you just have a busy private life, then you may not always relish the challenges this can present.

Commissioning a bespoke piece isn’t like specifying off-the-shelf items. You need to find a maker who is the perfect fit in terms of style, skill, experience, availability, the schedule, price and so on. We know how busy the best makers can be - often unavailable for weeks, sometimes months. So it can take you a lot of searching to find someone suitable.

Even when you do, you potentially face the time-consuming prospect of lengthy discussions about the design and material choices, appraising sketches and samples - and reviewing costs. And then there’s the added responsibility of managing the making process and ensuring the maker realises and delivers the design and specification that you’ve agreed, on time and on budget.

With Co-Create, you remain involved of course but can efficiently commission a bespoke piece with peace of mind, and none of the hassle. You simply commission Teer & Co and we work with you throughout the process, and provide valuable support by taking care of the details.

Using our 40+ years’ experience of working with designers and our trusted network of Makers, we develop a piece that professionally realises your vision. This allows you to get on with running projects and your busy life knowing that your commission is in expert hands.

How it works

Scope
When you identify the need for a bespoke commission, brief us to the best of your ability on the piece, making style, material/s, timeline, budget guideline, etc. We explore our trusted network for a suitable maker and respond with 1-2 recommendations. We provide examples of their work, material samples if required and ballpark prices for you/your client.

Commission
We discuss the options and you/your client choose a preferred artist-designer-maker based on the information provided. You brief us fully with the chosen maker and we finalise the fee. You commission Teer & Co to develop the piece with a 50% advance payment. The balancing 50% payment is made prior to delivery.

Design
Once the commission is underway, the design conception and development phase begins. If you/your client requires advance design proposals (prior to the commission and 50% advance payment), our terms are that we make an agreed charge for the artist, designer or makers time in the event you/your client decide not to proceed.

Co-Create
We coordinate the commission with the maker through to delivery, keeping you informed of progress at every stage. Together, we realise your vision, supporting you in the creation of unique personal interiors and commercial spaces of the highest quality.

Our Makers

We represent a broad range of some of the UK’s finest Makers. But if we need a different talent for your project, we will simply explore our wider network of contacts.

Our value

Because Co-Create brings makers commissions, and we perform a client liaison and making-management role that saves them time, we enjoy preferential rates in return. This means our built-in service fee, when compared with our peers, can be kept modest – well below the value of the time we can save you. So you pay little or no more through Co-Create for a bespoke-commission piece than you would by going direct to a maker yourself.
